Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh City

With its striking architectural design and prominent location in Ho Chi Minh City, the Deutsches Haus will be a flagship of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The concept was derived from the requirement to create a formal expression of Germany and reflect its role as an industrial and technological leader in the architectural language. The glass façade opens up the high-rise building to the public and reveals some of its internal functions. At the same time, it represents a symbol of modern German architecture abroad. A cost-effective design, low energy consumption, the use of ecological building materials and LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Platium Certification) are just some examples of this.

The design takes into account the underlying urban development conditions and planning specifications of the site. Its striking presence unites high technical qualities with transparent elegance.

The Deutsches Haus presents itself to the city as a transparent and inviting building, the façade of which reflects German technology. In addition, the planned double façade serves to emphasise the energy-saving structure under the climatic conditions of Vietnam.

The high-rise building is divided into two complexes that are linked through a recessed glazed connection that constitutes both the central circulation area and hosts particular functions such as the restaurant and the Consulate General. The design of the complexes presents expressive, sculptural architecture and reflects the urban design requirements which are laid out in the government agreement. The sleekness of the glass façade enhances the sculptural expression.

MainSamco
This project is the first multi-storey-car parking structure in HCMC with a total capacity of approx.1000 parking lots. Adjacent to the parking structure a 4 floor car-repair and maintenance garage for Toyota was designed.

The transparent aluminum envelope that covers the car parking was proposed not only for aesthetical reasons but also to reduce construction costs and operational costs for mechanical ventilation and lighting.

MainBa Ria Vung Tau Administrator Center
The design takes full advantage of the local climate to maximize the site’s sustainability. The elliptical conference center allows a southwesterly wind to pass through the complex, cooling the entire block as it travels across a reflecting pool. Carefully positioned louvers shield the building from sunlight and stairwells generate natural circulation via cylinders of air drawn from the courtyard. Thorough analyses of light and wind patterns have resulted in minimal energy consumption.

The complex symbolizes the values of the government it houses: access, cooperation, and transparency. The monumental conference hall, situated at a major intersection on the southwest corner of the site, welcomes visitors with a sweeping, symmetrical plaza. The plaza then merges with an interior courtyard that re-imagines traditional Vietnamese house design on a grand scale. Tranquil and cool, the courtyard encourages both quiet contemplation and chance interaction. Surrounding it, a series of glass facades allows reciprocal views of the courtyard from within and the interior from without, embodying the collaboration and transparency essential to effective government.

3BIDV Tower
For the BIDV tower competition a symmetrical tower was proposed.

The two corner clear openings redefines the strong tower shape and allows tenants to overlook the boundaries of the city. Another narrow opening in the back of the tower reinforces the idea of the connectivity to its surroundings. A grand opening with skylights marks the main entrance in the podium which was designed with reference to the city hall building height.

Entering the building the visitor experiences a six-storey open space where balconies on either side look into the entrance hall.
